You know, I knew the worst part about leaving Baltimore was going to be the Facebook pictures of hangouts/parties/potlucks/etc. that I wouldn’t be able to attend, seeing as how I’m currently in a different state.

Before she left for work, my mom asked me to water the plants in the garden. This isn’t a hard or strenuous task; in fact, if our house weren’t surrounded by other houses on all sides, I’d probably be doing it right now, or at least I’d be passed out on a lawn chair with my cat sitting on me or something.

But the thing is this: I know that if I go outside, I will inevitably run into the neighbors. I know, I know, but this isn’t so much an issue of me avoiding them (because they are genuinely kind, wonderful people) as it as me avoiding the inevitable “so what are you doing now that you’ve graduated?” question.

I’ll know in a week, maybe, ok? Can I just hide in my house until then?

But here’s the thing - I’ve never actually been to a rave, so I had no sensory data for my subconscious to draw on. Meaning: there was no music in my dream, only a bunch of unruly high school kids who couldn’t believe the DJ didn’t show. So the lights go up and some fat girl with neon dreads tries to steal my phone and everyone is leaving, and then suddenly Beyonce walks in with two backup singers and starts singing to the remaining audience.

We made eye contact.

I have an interview for a potential internship at a game company in San Francisco, and will be visiting the small town where I grew up for the first time in 12 years.

The only track off the new album that doesn’t belong in a garbage can is this one. It took an average demo from a couple years ago and turned it into a dreamy 50’s prom slowdance.

Best Coast is a band that lacks diversity almost to a fault, but gets away with it because I happen to like their overall sound so much. I dunno. I’m not saying it’s necessarily a good thing to put out two albums where you can’t tell the songs apart. I just have this huge soft spot for hazy pop music and this song appeals to it A LOT.

Earlier I was loosely putting words together in preparation for some post about the college experience, because it’s almost obligatory now that it’s over. But all I can think of currently, on repeat, is how suddenly I’m old. I’m not 18 but there’s an embarrassingly large part of me that feels 18. What would 18-year old me even say? What was 18 year old me even thinking I’d be doing, in this netherweek between the end of class and graduation?

Whatever it was it probably wasn’t scooping my eyeballs off of my keyboard at 6 am and finally, blissfully passing out. WHICH IS WHAT I AM DOING RIGHT NOW.
